Dr. Paul Doherty is one of the prominent English authors of his time who has written some very interesting books based on the historical mystery and thriller genres as well as some critically acclaimed nonfiction history books. He was born on September 21, 1946 in Middlesbrough, The United Kingdom and underwent basic schooling as a child and then went on to study for the Catholic Priesthood for three years at Durham. But, he decided not to proceed with it and rather joined the Liverpool University, thereby obtaining his degree with First Class Honors in the subject of History. Paul also won the scholarship that allowed him to study at the Exeter College in Oxford. While studying here he met with his wife Carla Lynn Corbitt. Then, he stopped his academic studies as he believed he did not belong to that world and started working as a secondary school teacher. He taught in a number of schools in Crawley in West Sussex and Ascot in Nottingham before he was appointed as the Headmaster at the Trinity Catholic School in the year 1981. The Trinity School teaches a large number of students between the ages 11 and 18 and has been described as a leading comprehensive in the United Kingdom.
During Paul’s time as the Headmaster of the Trinity School, it was labelled as an ‘Outstanding School’ and was also given the Beacon status and received a public accolade as a Centre of Excellence. Apart from working as a school teacher, Paul also engrossed himself into writing novels. Firstly, he completed his doctorate on the subject of the reign of King Edward II and from the year 1987 onwards began writing and publishing a series of historical mystery novels. His novels were mostly set in the Classical, Ancient Egypt, Middle Age, Greek and other such places of historical importance. The novels written by Paul have been published by New York’s St. Martin’s Press in America, Eichborn, Knaur and Heyne in Germany, and by Edhasa in Spain. Other than these, his novels have also been published internationally in a number of countries such as France, Russia, Portugal, Belgium, Estonia, Bulgaria, Holland, China, Czechoslovakia, Italy, Mexico, Romania and Argentina. Author Paul has used a number of pen names other than his real name for writing different kinds of novels. Several of his many pen names include, P.C. Doherty, Paul Harding, Michael Clynes, Celia L. Grace, Ann Dukthas, Anna Apostolou, and Vanessa Alexander. But as of now, he writes under his own name only.
Some of Paul’s extraordinary works include a series based on the life of Alexander the Great as well as some other novels depicting the rich history of the Ancient Egypt. These works have received critical acclaim all over the world. Besides these, he has also written the nonfiction novels based on the possible murder of the Pharaoh of Egypt, Tutankhamun in the 18th Dynasty, Wife of King Edward II of England and the true fate of the great Alexander. Currently, Paul lives happily along with his wife Carla and their six children in their house situated on the border of Essex and London. His children have studied in the same school where he works as the Headmaster. Paul’s wife Carla owns a couple of horses, whom she trains regularly. She also has an Arab filly called Polly. Paul has had the opportunity of giving lectures on historical mysteries in a number of organizations. He is described by his friends and colleagues as a born speaker and a trained lecturer who can entertain and hold audiences for long hours. Paul has only one ambition in his life which is to petition the England’s Privy Council in order to open the Purbeck marble on the tomb of King Edward II lying in the Gloucester Cathedral as he believes that the tomb does not hose the dead body of King Edward II.
Paul Doherty has written five novel series’ in his writing career, many of which have been extremely successful. One of his extraordinary series’ is the Hugh Corbett series consisting of a total of 17 novels published between the years 1986 and 2010. The series deals with the main character of Hugh Corbett, who is depicted as a spy during the reign of King Edward I in England. The first novel of the series was published under the title ‘Satan in St Mary’s’. It was published by the Headline publishing house in the year 1986. The plot of the novel is set in the year 1284 century England, when Edward I was having a hard time against a traitorous movement which was started by the late Simon de Montfort. Simon was a rebel and died in the Battle of Evesham in the year 1258. A society named The Pentangle was the operator of the movement and its members used to practice the black arts. It was believed that The Pentangle was behind the suicide of one of the King’s loyal subjects named Lawrence Duket. The King orders his Chancellor Burnell to study the matter. He chooses Hugh Corbett, a clever and a sharp clerk from the Bench of the Court of the King.
Corbett teams up with his manservant Ranulf to carry out the investigation as a result of which they get drawn into the deadly politics and the dangerous and dark world of the medieval London. The second novel of the series was published in the year 1988 by the Headline publishing house. It was titled ‘The Crown in Darkness’. The plot of this novel is set in the year 1286 when King Alexander III of Scotland rides through a dark night to meet with his gorgeous French bride Yolande. However, he is not able to reach to his destination as his horse slips mysteriously causing both of them to crash to their deaths. Now the throne of Scotland is left vacant due to which the European Princes and nobles start fighting with each other in order to become the heir of the Scottish throne. Then, on the orders of King Edward I, Chancellor Burnell sends his clever clerk, Hugh Corbett for reporting the situation in the Scotland Court. On arriving in Scotland, he realizes that there is a connection between the king’s sudden death and those who were trying to take the throne. Soon, Corbett finds himself in the middle of a conspiracy, intrigue and danger.

Hi Charmaine,
As they all appear to be short stories/novellas – it is doubtful that they will be printed individually as physical books. The best you can hope for is down the road the author releases them as a collection.

Looking into it, I do believe The Secret History of Tutankhamen may be The Mysterious Death of Tutankahemn under an alternate name. I can’t access a copy of The Secret History to check but it does appear that way.
I can’t locate any book by Paul called The Valley of Shadows.
I see The Death of the Red King available in hardcover on Amazon.
